The OEB has initiated a review of the quarterly rate adjustment mechanism for natural gas distributors. The review is to be conducted in two parts with the first phase examining the adjustment process, the OEB's policy on rate mitigation and protocols for customer communication.

The Climate Prediction Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released its 2014 Atlantic hurricane season outlook. NOAA's outlook calls for a 50% chance of a below-normal season, a 40% chance of near-normal and a 10% chance of an above-normal season. The 6-month hurricane season began June 1.

TransCanada PipeLines has filed a description of its proposed Eastern Mainline Project with the National Energy Board. The company explains the proposed natural gas facilities are needed to enable TransCanada to continue to meet its obligations following the transfer of certain Mainline facilities to the Energy East Pipeline and the conversion of those facilities to crude oil service, if approved by the NEB.

The Ontario Energy Board posted data showing the province's system-wide electricity supply mix for 2013.

The OEB increased electricity commodity prices under the Regulated Price Plan effective May 1. Off-peak and mid-peak prices increased by 0.3 cents/kWh while the on-peak price went up by 0.6 cents.

In a draft report on rate design for electricity distributors, the Ontario Energy Board indicates it intends to pursue a fixed rate design and when customers understand what distribution system costs are being recovered in the rate, they will be equipped to make informed choices about the use of the system.

The OEB approved increases in the gas supply charges for Enbridge Gas Distribution and Union Gas, effective April 1. The utilities applied for the new charges under their OEB-approved quarterly rate adjustment mechanism.

The Ontario Power Authority has published its revised business plan for 2014 to 2016. The revised plan was approved by the Minister of Energy at the end of January.

The Ontario Energy Board has approved three major system expansion projects - one by Enbridge Gas Distribution and two by Union Gas. The utilities had indicated the projects are needed to respond to system demands, diversify their supply, address short haul market access requirements for transportation, and address integrity issues on the Enbridge distribution system.
